Africa Rising is very smart on his day and he duly won a tight Pinnacle Stakes contest (speed score 100 +) over consistent, Arctica (99) before the Turffontein meeting ended prematurely due to a burst water pipe. In the preceding handicap race, Full Of Attitude (s/s 95) romped and looks worth following at the right class level.

Captain’s Girl (s/s 98) reverted back to her best, resuming after a layoff under Louis Goosen’s care. By easily winning a Pinnacle Stakes at Scottsville on Sunday she added a fifth triumph to her tally, and continued the exceptional roll of early season winners for Anton Marcus.

Cape Town Kenilworth Maiden’s are full of potently bred runners at this time of the year as their trainers try get their careers underway in the build up to Spring. Crown Towers carries an especially big reputation at Snaith Racing and the Aussie bred Camelot colt won the opener convincingly, as anticipated.

Trip to the Sky (s/s 86+) won Race 3 fluently with runner-up Retro Effect catching the eye by staying on nicely down the inner. Highest speed figure on Saturday in the Cape went to Ready Steady Go (s/s 97) who lugged top-weight in a handicap to skip clear for his third win from ten starts.

The Founders Trophy in PE went to Gimme the Stars (s/s 100), like Ready Steady Go an admirable son of Gimmethegreenlight. He received a finely judged ride from Ryan Munger to nab the stayer, Desert Wisdom (s/s 99) for a cosy score. Reliable gelding Dawnbreaker (s/s 98) who has yet to miss a stake cheque on the Poly, was close by in third.
