Mike de Kock unleashed a succession of high- class winners at Turffontein, including a stand- out performance by Barahin (s/s 111) in the Charity Mile. The Gimmethegreenlight colt swept past handy rival, Chijmes (s/s 106) to quickly put the result beyond doubt. He is developing into a pretty formidable racehorse in the distance range between 1400/1800 and was delivering a notable career best on Saturday over the mile trip.

It was evident halfway down the Turffontein straight that de Kock’s Queen Supreme (s/s 100+) was moving much the best and she duly drew away for a wide margin victory in the Yellowwood Handicap. The chestnut filly has won four out of five starts and should sustain the sequence in even stronger races based on Saturday’s romp.

Frosted Gold (s/s 91 ++) won a false run Graham Beck Stakes from Magic School in a race where some in the field were affected by a rider-less horse. The victor, also trained by de Kock, was a tough beat second to Eden Roc in the Gold Medallion as a juvenile, and deservedly experienced a change of fortune here.

Querari filly, Mill Queen (s/s 99) tussled and, ultimately, prevailed in the Starling Stakes over a very game Wisteria Walk (s/s 98) who got across from a wide draw under a positive ride. The winner was also enjoying a change of luck – second to Gabor from a tough gate at Greyville in the Thekwini Stakes, she took advantage of a perfect rail skimming trip to gain a fine victory.

Spiritofthegroove (s/s 96) was very impressive hurtling through from far back in the Ready to Run Cup. This grey daughter of Visionaire possesses a powerful burst of finishing speed and was full value for the win from draw 15.

Prince of Kahal is a paragon of consistency. He repeatedly runs quality figures in the range between 104 – 106 and did so again to deny a resurgent William the Brave (s/s 104) and Quinlan (s/s 102) in the Golden Loom sprint. Prince of Kahal has now won four on the bounce since early August – Roy Magner’s Kahal gelding has really come to light at five.
