The Grade 3 Fillies Mile fell to Follow Me (speed score 95 +) at Turffontein on Saturday. The Gimmethegreenlight three-year-old filly got within two lengths of then star juvenile, Desert Miracle back in June and is now making the progress expected by trainer, Stuart Pettigrew. She was followed in by familiar foe, Eternity Ring, Sprinkles and Marigold Hotel.
Astute jockey, Aldo Domeyer’s suggestion that Majestic Mozart relocate to Johannesburg proved a wise move. Now with Ashley Fortune on the Highveld, the gelding romped in a 1600m Progress plate for only his third career victory.
Majestic Mozart has often run credible figures of 100+ only to find that insufficient against Graded opposition in Cape Town and Durban. It will be interesting to see how he fares at altitude where his breathing issues may prove less of a hinderance. He now comes onto the Summer Cup Top 20 Log.
Resonate (speed score 98) is another that is highly rated by Bass Racing and he produced a really fine performance at Kenilworth, cutting back to sprinting. Domeyer made a big move from dead last on the handsome chestnut to defeat Kalahari Ferrari (s/s 95.)
Spring Awakening (s/s 101) is very quick, and he used forcing tactics to outpace rivals in a MR 96 handicap over 1200m. The horse to take out of the race though is second-placed, Somerset Maugham (s/s 100+) who made up a lot of ground after a duffed start, closing smartly after switching in the final stages.
Interbet ambassador Brett Crawford currently has his string in good nick. He managed a treble on Saturday as The Futurist, Field of Vision (s/s 83) and She’s a Rainbow ran out well-supported winners. The latter looks especially promising having run 92 ++ at her previous start and seems capable of running in the high 90’s at best.
