Gimme a Prince (s/s 107 ++) was ultra-impressive when putting two lengths between himself and toiling pursuers in the G2 Cape Merchants at Kenilworth. He did not have things his own way, tracking the speed without cover in the centre, then moving up stylishly before drawing clear of fine three-year-old, We’re Jamming (s/s 102), consistent Bereave (s/s 102) and Gem King (s/s 101).
Jockey de Melo spoke in glowing terms about the regally bred son of Gimmethegreenlight ex Real Princess who will probably gun for the Diadem Stakes next, also over 1200m.
Silvano’s Dasher (s/s 106) is another on a winning roll, taking out a 1400m event on the Kenilworth undercard and earning a big number in the process. He too should be followed with confidence.
Second placed Quasiforsure (s/s 102) could not match his adversary at level weights in the run to the line yet ran with credit after 375 days off track in this MR 105 handicap.Â
Up on the Highveld, Big Burn ran a career peak of 106 when getting home in a Pinnacle Stakes sprint under apprentice Sosibo. They took advantage of an 11 kg pull at the weights to go all the way and edge out Alesian Chief (s/s 105) in a close call. Big Burn is now trained by Sean Tarry and again showed her preference for a soft surface.
Taikonaut (s/s 102) dam, Earth’s Orbit was pretty quick and the son of Twice Over seems to have inherited some of her speed. The three-year-old was backed in to 5/2 and won a tight verdict over displaced favorite, Karangetang (s/s 101) who only succumbed close to the finish.
The two WSB Heritage races over 1475 meters were run in equivalent times. Duke of Sussex and Fateful Day (Consolation) merited speed scores of 95. The latter was winning the fourth race of his career – in-form jock, JP van der Merwe riding for Gavin van Zyl; JP also took out the main race on prolific eight-time winner, Duke of Sussex for sharp horseman, Lucky Houdalakis.
