Interbet has been providing podcasts for years with pre-race analysis covering all the major centres in South Africa. Podcasts, as a relatively new form of media, have really taken off in popularity. They enable listeners to follow chosen topics of interest with absolute convenience and are akin to being your own personal, old-school, radio- content programmer!

Nowadays, horse racing fans have a wide array of podcast programs to select. Two which come highly recommended are the Business of Betting, hosted by Jason Trost/Jake Williams and the In the Money podcast series fronted by Peter Thomas Fornatale.

Trost/Williams has done around 150 interviews with global figures within the racing, gambling and sports wagering industries. Each of their podcasts runs between 40 minutes to an hour and covers fascinating topics.

Amongst many outstanding pods, I especially enjoyed his Q & A sessions with Melbourne bookie Mark Sampieri; insights from analytical guru James Willoughby; punting advise from the Brits, Tom Brownlee and Harry Findlay; astute counsel from the now Hong Kong based form expert, Alan Aitken; razor-sharp Dean Evans and legend Rob Waterhouse on current trends in betting and bookmaking; and another sharp Aussie, Marc Lambourne on his research experiences with big syndicate groups and adventures in professional punting.

The In the Money podcast is more American orientated, yet there is a great deal of ‘universal” knowledge to be gained from listening. Matt Bernier and Jonathon Kinchen hosts regular shows, as do globe-trotter, Nick Luck – that’s for those wanting to find out more about UK racing.

I found a recent series hosted by Economics of Racetrack wagering lecturer, Marshall Gramm particularly engrossing. In them, he interviews academic, Maury Wolf, genius pro player, Sean Boarman; journalist Dick Jerardi and mathematician Dr Bill Ziemba, amongst other luminaries.

I look forward to listening to more of these hugely informative pods when time permits. With the SA racing calendar currently at the mercy of the weather gods, especially up North where thunderstorms have caused the cancellation of several meetings, frustrated fans may choose to fill idle moments following these two suggested sites. Enjoy!
