Interbet fans savoured top notch racing on the Highveld with Master Sabina (s/s 103) just getting the better of stable mate Deo Juvente (s/s 102) to lift the Grade 1 Summer Cup in a robust duel. Trainer Geoff Woodruff has a stranglehold on this event having now won it three years in succession, running one-two in 2014 and 2015.It was a fine training feat to get Master Sabina right again, just one prep run after a long injury enforced layoff.
Noah from Goa (s/s 106) and New Predator (s/s 105) are very smart three year olds who tangled in the Dingaans, with Mike de Kock’s runner getting the nod The Tiger Ridge gelding coped well with the longer route and continues to make sharp progress after winning on debut in mid-September. Third placed Abashiri (s/s 100) made a neat comeback after showing up well during the KZN winter season, and is worth following at his next starts.
Brutal Force is a giant specimen, now turning into a seriously tough sprinter after racing over a bit further as a youngster. He sustained a strong gallop down the Turffontein straight to beat off Dollar Dazzler (s/s 104) in the Grade 2 Merchants.
Kwinta (s/s 101) won the Grade 3 Magnolia handicap – just reward for consistency as this was her fourth score from only nine outings. It was nip and tuck at the wire with Silver Class (s/s 100) fighting hard in second. In another Fillies feature, Negroamaro (s/s 95+) proved much the best, easily winning that 1600m Grade 3 event.
Down in the Cape, promising stayer My World (s/s 100) ran on gamely to edge out A Time to Kill (s/s 99) and Our Icon (s/s 98) in a fast run 2000m race. The doughty son of Ideal World will now be targeting marathons like the J and B Reserve Stayers, where his stamina and gameness can be used to good effect.
