Maintaining a trend of improving form, Captain Aldo (speed score 100) won the listed Wolf Power 1600 at Turffontein. This was his fifth victory from 22 starts and a career best effort. The other feature races on the card were for three year olds – Suyoof (s/s 96+) held off Champagne Haze (s/s 95) and Le Clos (s/s 95) to clinch the Tony Ruffel Stakes, followed by Madame Dubois (s/s 91+) getting first run on her rivals to score in the Three Troikas.

Kenilworth staged more mundane low level handicap and Maiden fare. Cardinal Call (s/s 86) caused a jolt in the opening leg of the Pick Six after the odds-on favourite Arctic Blast showed early pace before caving in; developing sprinter Mr Bond (s/s 92) then notched a smooth win so seems worth following, and well-bred filly Inanna (s/s 90) is progressing nicely after easily coping with a step up to MR 91 handicap level wearing blinkers for the first time.

Speedy mare Blizzard Belle’s (s/s 101) record- busting accomplishment was the subject of a recent Interbet newsletter, and the daughter of Western Winter scored yet another notable win in PE. She recorded a fifth in a row, again outpacing her victims over the minimum trip – Blizzard Belle boasts a strong record of six wins from nine starts over her favourite 1000m distance.

Memphis Mafia (s/s 97) is another Eastern Cape performer who knows how to win. In the Sophomore Plate at Fairview, the Lecture gelding saw off Fly Like The Wind (s/s 96), and the runner-up should also enjoy a productive career based on this level of performance.
