Progeny of Silvano have been doing tremendously and Silvan Star (speed score 105) continued that positive trend. She won the Grade 3 Final Fling Stakes at Kenilworth, following up on her victory in the Ladies Mile in June. Very consistent with six wins from 14 starts and a number of placings to her credit, the gutsy filly gave another good kick to score comfortably over A Time To Dream (s/s 101) and Ngaga (s/s 100). Silvan Star has overcome feet problems and swelling in her legs to do really well – though, how she copes against the top fillies during the Cape Summer season remains to be seen.

The Snaith yard were also on a roll, winning four races and obtaining five seconds. Juvenile, Kasimir (s/s 92 +) looks worth following, whilst Turbulent Air (s/s 99) and The Right Road (s/s 98) have more wins in them too. Jockey Bernard Fayd’Herbe is riding especially well at the moment – winning on half of his eight mounts and coming second on three of them.

Last Winter (s/s 103) remains perfect after winning its third start. The son of Western Winter proved much the best in a Scottsville handicap, making a move early in the straight and drawing away impressively from Union Jack (s/s 98). Stallion of the moment Silvano is also implicated in this one’s success – he sired the dam, Field Flower.

There is a busy program of racing lined up for this coming week. The weekend action at Greyville is particularly tempting with many of the best horses stepping out. This is also the time of the year, as the racing season draws to a close, when awards panels convene to decide who gets the accolades. Some of the divisions are already sewn up, but this weekends’ results could well have a bearing on those more contentious categories.
