Dodgy Itie won the Flamingo Mile on Saturday earning a figure of 95, which is about as good as it gets in Kimberley. Formerly with Shane Humby in the Cape until November 2014, this son of Latino Magic has performed admirably since relocating North. He has struck up a close affinity with Marco van Rensburg and the partnership again proved best when winning their fifth race together. Dodgy Itie raced handy next to another refugee from the Cape, Elusive Singer (s/s 90) before drawing clear for owner/trainer Cliffie Miller.

The best figure at Greyville was recorded by Y’retheone (s/s 92) saddled by Charles Laird. The son of Rebel King had not won for 631 days, with a problematic history of bleeding and coughing, only to bolt in convincingly in this low-level handicap equipped with a tongue tie. He can win again soon at the right class level based on this score.

Yankee Captain (s/s 96) goes well over 1400m/1600m and duly came out on top at Turffontein on Sunday. He put a last start fail behind him, moving slightly up in grade and bouncing back to gain a fifth career win from 19 starts.

Glen Kotzen’s yard has been in fine form lately and they added a hat-trick to the tally with Triple Explosion, Essenceoflife and Dragon Flame scoring at Kenilworth. Their big horse, Gold Standard (s/s 109) is reportedly doing well after a lengthy rest and, looking long-term, should be a major player in the Cape Summer features where he is sufficiently talented to win something important. Eyes Wide Open, their smart juvenile winner right at the end of this past season, is another potential stable star worth watching closely.
