After crunching the numbers, a potent effort from juvenile, Bold Eagle (speed score 99) was revealed, as he proved way superior in the Storm Bird Stakes at Turffontein over the weekend. The son of Bold Silvano stretched well clear of Royal Italian (s/s 89) and is clearly very talented.
Mrs O (s/s 100) delivered another good sprint performance on the day. She eked out a narrow victory in in the Gold Rush Sprint, just edging Down to Zero (s/s 99) and Premier Show (s/s 99). A race earlier, in the Listed Bauhinia Handicap, Covered in Snow (s/s 97)was full of running accounting for Myfunnyvalentine (s/s 93). The winner got beat on debut in a Work Riders race – since then has won four on the bounce and is a good advert for American stallion, Crusade.
There were some solid figures recorded down at Durbanville with Brave Move (s/s 96+) again running out a fluent winner in completing a hat-trick. She has a neat turn of foot so could well be up to winning a fillies feature in the near future. Her trainer Adam Marcus has been on the tear in Cape Town, following up with Bridal Party (s/s 90) who got there in a blanket finish to land a competitive handicap. As streaks go, Marcus has genuinely been on a tremendous roll only missing a place twice from the last 18 horses saddled. He’s had nine winners from that sample, whilst the last five horses Marcus has sent out have all won.
Sunset Eyes (s/s 98) has been on a streak of his own since moving up to Durban. After holding off Tribal Fusion’s late lunge, the chestnut son of Western Winter stretched his unbeaten sequence to four this year. He’s scored twice in MR 84’s, once in an MR 88 and handled the rise up to Pinnacle Stakes class with Anthony Delpech saluting on Sunday at Greyville.
