Humidor (speed score 104) delivered a most impressive performance in a sprint at Scottsville on Sunday. The Miesque’s Approval gelding got beat on debut at Greyville, but is a perfect three from three at this venue over 1200m. He used forcing tactics to defeat MR 86 level rivals and is worth following through the grades. Humidor was chased home by Fortissimo (s/s 102) who ran a career best at his 11th start. The lightly raced runner up is improving again, so seems worth following in suitable races over the next few months – especially at his favourite Greyville track.

Captain Bagg (s/s 97) won a mid-grade handicap at Kenilworth, using his natural speed to maximum advantage. Not the easiest of rides, he was nevertheless well-handled by Grant Behr. They skated home ahead of The Stone Thrower (s/s 93) who was held up for a run – tactics that suit him best. Not only is Captain Bagg effective on a fast surface, but he also comfortably handled the slush in winter 2015. That makes him worth watching when the much-needed Cape rains eventually arrive.

Annigoni (s/s 96) likes to charge late off a strong pace and he used that running style to outduel Waiting For Rain (s/s 95) in a MR 80 Handicap over 1600m. Rahvar (s/s 91) went hard early and that teed things up for the deep-closers. Annigoni may not always be silky smooth when going down to the start, but he can motor home powerfully when feeling good – the son of Silvano is capable of adding more wins to his tally of four scores from 13 outings.
