The well-travelled Talktothestars (speed score 105) claimed a Grade 2 victory in the Senor Santa Stakes at Turffontein over 1160m. He was all out to deny top notch sprinting filly Lazer Star (s/s 105) in a driving finish. The winner has been trucked around the country – running consistently in all the major centres – not even finding it beneath his dignity to stop off in Kimberley and win there as well. Six year old Pivotal Pursuit produced a career best 101 to sneak third place at long odds and bump up the trifecta divvy.
Last term’s Dingaans victor Unparalled got the stewards verdict in the Colorado King Stakes, after front running Stonehenge had tried to steal it and bustled past the post first, only to get demoted for causing interference in the drive to the wire.
Back to the short cut events at Turffontein, Tiger’s Touch (s/s 98) recorded her fourth win from only nine starts when trouncing opposition in the Grade 3 Sycamore Sprint. She is making rapid progress and is worth following for a typically sharp Sean Tarry, who has saddled 11 top two finishers from the stables’ last 30 starters.
Best performance down in the Cape came from another emergent sprinter, Psycho Syd (s/s 97). He was much the best and will go on to contest stronger races than the mid-level handicap field that he whipped on Saturday.
Bettors plunged on Red Chesnut Road (s/s 92) in the opener at Scottsville on Sunday, backing the filly from 8’s into 17/10. Savvy punters were spot on, as she ambled in a pole ahead of her victims. It was an impressive debut effort, and her connections must have high hopes for the daughter of Pathfork.
