Trainer, Dean Kannemeyer won the Cape Guineas for a sixth time last week with Russian Rock and followed up by providing more Xmas cheer to stable supporters in Durban when Mount Anderson (speed score 96) clinched the Xmas Handicap at Greyville on Saturday.

It was a tough struggle round the 1600m course before the son of Vercingetorix was able to put away the persistent challenge of Mr Fitz, with Baby Shooz close up in third. Mount Anderson started at 10/1.

On a day of upsets leading to big exotic payouts, Indi Anna (s/s 97) provided another jolt by winning the G3 Flamboyant Stakes at 16/1. The Peter Muscutt trained Master of My Fate mare, received a perfect run in a handy position on the rail, keeping Mary O at bay by a length and a half.

Elusive Trader (s/s 100, has run 108) repeated last season’s Southeaster Sprint victory at Kenilworth under a skillful ride by Anton Marcus who executed hold up tactic over the unusual 1100m distance just perfectly. Constable kept up a good gallop throughout, yet could not resist Elusive Trader’s swift finishing burst.

La Quinta (s/s 98) also received a finely judged ride from Grant van Niekerk, who really is performing at the top of his game. He’s developed into being world class at best having honed his considerable talents in a very demanding Hong Kong jockey colony.

Van Niekerk secured a good placement in third on the rail as two tear-away pacesetters slit one another’s throats up front. The progressive Querari filly (from the bang- in- form Justin Snaith yard) had no trouble sauntering by when the speed collapsed, and was easily able to hold out Crusade’s Promise’s late rally.

There were two potentially significant races staged earlier on the Kenilworth card. Both Maiden Plates threw up unusually big speed scores as Crown Diamond (s/s 93) out-duelled heavily punted favourite Starboard in the first heat, then Brave New World went gun to tape in the second, also registering a neat figure of 93.
