Do It Again (speed score 115) produced a strong late surge to deny the three year- old Soqrat (s/s 114) in an outstanding Queens Plate performance with Rainbow Bridge (s/s 110) back in third. Undercover Agent and Legal Eagle, though well beaten, both attained 108’s which is usually good enough to win a G1 in SA and puts into perspective just how swiftly the top two ran. Both Do It Again and Rainbow Bridge will be popular choices for the upcoming Met based on the towering figures they are currently running.
Kenilworth also staged the G1 Paddock Stakes which Oh Susanna (s/s 104) took with a dominant pace pressing ride. She was yet again pushed all the way by Lady in Black as they continue a spirited ongoing rivalry.
In the G2 Peninsula Handicap, Doublemint (s/s 104) was all heart coming from off the pace and running down Kampala Campari, who had skipped lengths clear coming into the straight. The longshot, Man about Town (s/s 100) ran nicely in third and will win soon when pitched against lesser opposition.
Twist of Fate (s/s 100 +) had run with distinction in the Guineas behind Soqrat and got a deserved fifth career win in the G3 Politician Stakes. The cheaply bought Master of My Fate colt was conceding the rest of the field weight, making his win even more noteworthy. It was a tight scramble for place money – all of Senatla, Belgarion, Sailing Lizard and Herodotus score 96’s and are way above average middle- distance youngsters with neat potential.
