Rebels Champ scored 102 to win a competitive Pinnacle Stakes Sprint @ Scottsville. The chestnut has now won six of 18 races after having been well bought for just R10 000 at the CTS two year- old sale. Credit to Paul Peter for getting the best out of this unfashionable son of Rebel King, who ran a tremendous figure of 108 when dismissing Isphan in an October dash at Turffontein and carried 62kg’s to victory in Sunday’s race.
Captain and Master (96 + has run 102) has been a frustrating horse to follow. Capable, at best, of threatening top miler Undercover Agent, he’s also somehow failed against lesser rivals. But there are signs that he will soon be fulfilling his potential. He showed a swift finish and determination to stave off Lake Kinneret (s/s 95) in as Assessment Plate at Turffontein on Saturday and will be a threat in bigger races.
Sand and Sea (s/s 101) won the Gold Medallion at two, then was off for a long time due to breathing problems, which have seemingly been corrected by surgery. In what was no more than an exercise gallop, the feisty son of Twice Over romped in a Kenilworth sprint as a neat prep for the Merchants.
Belgarion and Expedite both attained 94 +’s and are also worth following. The former is a fast developing three year- old whilst Expedite (by Judpot) just keeps on winning despite moving up the class ladder. Sire, Judpot had another success on the card when Nous Voila surprised more fancied opposition by going start to finish down the straight. She has an awkward action which accounted for a poor effort around the turn – back down the straight she delivered a knock- out blow to many Pick Six punters.
