Malmoos (speed score 100+) won the G3 Graham Beck Stakes to stay perfect from three outings. He eventually wore down stable mate Forever Mine (s/s 97) after a long tussle. The son of Captain Al has now twice attained triple digit speed figures and is clearly top class whilst there was honour in defeat for his fellow Mike de Kock trained companion.

The same trainer also saddled Silvano filly, Due Diligence (s/s 95) – winner of the G3 Princess Charlene Starling Stakes. She got the better of Gee for Go (s/s 93) with Caralluma close by in third. Both Malmoos and Due Diligence were bred at Varsfontein Stud.

Lightly weighted, Hudoo Magic landed a betting coup for Crawford Racing when winning the G2 Charity Mile after being backed right in from 25’s to 6/1. The early pace was tepid which suited the handily placed son of Choisir who was expertly stoked up by vigorous jock, Muzi Yeni. They quickened well in deep stretch to deny Charles (a fine build up for the Summer Cup) and the persistent challenge of Youcanhurrylove.

The Emperor’s Palace RTR Cup produced an exciting finish with short heads between MK’s Pride (s/s 103), War of Athena and Flying Carpet (s/s 102). The winner lunged at just the right time on the wire to get the verdict, though full credit to the runner up who endured a wide trip from an outside barrier.

The victor is a colt by Willow Magic, trained by Paul Peter and ridden by the unflappable Warren Kennedy. The self-same combo came to the fore in the Golden Loom Sprint with cleverly-placed, progressive sprinter, Bold Ransom (s/s 104) powering through a gap close home to deny six year-old rivals, Oravar (s/s 103) and Great Shaka (s/s 101).
