Barbaresco ran a cracker behind Main Defender in the Got the Greenlight Stakes but due to some kinks in the handicapping system was not fully penalized. He was therefore weighted to win comfortably at his follow up in a handicap and after being punted from 2/1 into odds on, duly sauntered home.

Barbaresco earned a speed score of 106 previously and attained a fig of 101 + on Saturday without being put under pressure. The JAJ van Vuuren trained grey is very talented!

Another to follow up after recording a fine speed score at his previous start was Pistol Pete. A 95 on debut at the Vaal made him hard to beat and the Buffalo Bill Cody juvenile romped with a score of 87 + in the opener. He too was backed deep in the red.

Other above average scores at Turffontein were recorded by I am Giant and Mid-Winter Wind in the last two races. With identical final times they both merited solid figures of 92.

Best score at the Kenilworth meeting was produced by Teflon Man who managed a heart-stopping victory after being held up for a run till within the final furlong. It took cool nerves from Craig Zackey to wait for an outside gap, combined with tremendous powers of acceleration by Teflon Man to deny All About Al (s/s 96) and Night Tiger (s/s 96) who had been duking it out upfront.

The Dean Kannemeyer trained gelding is one to follow up in Durban during the Winter season. He is already scoring 101’s despite encountering troubled trips and is lightly raced with considerable scope.

Porque te Vas (s/s 94) hit a neat number in the closing race. Mike Stewart’s sprinter, like Teflon Man, is sired by accomplished and slightly under-rated stallion, Querari.
