There was some entertaining racing in Cape Town as part of the Vasco Tavern prawn festival. Joey Ramsden trained Just Sensual (speed figure 95 +) took the Prix du Cap headliner as one of many favourites to oblige on the day. The Fillies Guineas winner eventually got past Captain’s Flame after a protracted duel with Gimme Six (s/s 92 +) running on well for third.

In the Cape Mile, Victorious Jay (s/s 106) warded off the belated rally of Silicone Valley (s/s 105) in a rough race. Nebula looked to be coming home a winner on the stand side but dislodged jockey Cheyne when the gap tightened, which left the way clear for Vaughan Marshall’s runner to record a long overdue victory 504 days since last visiting the winner’s circle.

Juvenile filly Made In Hollywood (s/s 94 +) appears very smart. She free-wheeled into score in a 1200m sprint, impressing her jockey Anton Marcus, and looks to have an extremely bright future. She was sent out by the Ramsden yard, who enjoyed a productive afternoon at Kenilworth. They also won with Professor Brian (s/s 99) who is on a roll since being gelded and keeps winning off a modest current handicap mark which does not reflect his real ability.

Clear Sailing (s/s 96) proved in a different league to rivals in the Ladies Pendant at Fairview on the lawn. She seized command 300m out to win untroubled. On the same Friday card, Juan Two Three in race 2, and Kingvoldt delivered significant performances in MR 100 handicaps, registering scores of 103 and 101 respectively. Trainer Alan Greeff actually saddled the 1-2-3 finishers in that early sprint – a fine and apt achievement.
