Running Brave (speed score 104), War of Athena (s/s 104) and Catch Twentytwo (s/s 101) make it on to our highlights reel for the past weekend, after putting up notable performances at Turffontein.

Running Brave is an inexpensive Brave Tin Soldier mare trained now by Frank Bronkhorst. She is a very game pace- forcer that repeatedly runs between 104 and 107 in the distance range between 1600m and 2000m. She fought off the challenge of Expressfromtheus (s/s 103) to win Saturday’s G3 London News Stakes – her 8th career success.

Tough front-runner, Mk’s Pride (s/s 100) set the pace in the G3 Tony Ruffel Stakes but, unlike Running Brave, could not go gate to wire, succumbing to stable companion’s, Catchtwentytwo’s challenge. The victor, a son of Elusive Fort, was following up on his G2 Dingaans win over the same rival. He sports steadily escalating figures of 95, 96, 100 and now this 101+ which indicates Paul Peter’s charge is making the anticipated development of a healthy three year- old.

War of Athena is consistent at a high level, reeling off 103’s twice and now another excellent score of 104 to take care of previously unbeaten filly, Anything Goes (s/s 101, has done 104 @ best.)

The daughter of Act of War missed a cheque when fifth on debut at 70/1 – since then has compiled a proud record for trainer Paul Matchett of 5 wins and 5 places from her next ten appearances. She has run close twice in G1’s, scored in G2 and G3’s and is clearly amongst the very top of her generation.

Next weekend sees the LQP Festival @ Kenilworth, a racing feast for thoroughbred purists and punters.
