Africa Rising (speed score 102) has traversed the country in his short career and now seems set to make the most of things with the formidable Sean Tarry in control. The son of Visionaire made a swooping run on the rail to get by Copper Force (s/s 100) in the Byerley Turk at Greyville on Sunday. Both are very promising youngster’s worth following, with the second horse liable to be most effective over further.
The filly Gimme Six (s/s 97) had shown solid form to date, flashing swift come-home sectionals. She faced some tough rivals who had previously competed in Grade 1 events in the Umzimkhulu Stakes, yet handled the step up in class comfortably. Very skilfully piloted by Anthony Delpech, they overcame the wide draw with aplomb, then pounced after Final Judgement and Sail had fought a long tussle, to win going away.
Kingston Passage (s/s 101) has the makings of a power sprinter. He was far too speedy for rivals at Kenilworth and will go on to beat much better than what he faced on Saturday. He raced straight and true to defeat Vincente (s/s 97) with Starflash tottering into third after going from one side of the straight course to the other.
Kingston Passage was a popular form fancy in the opening leg of the P6 as was Step Out in race 7, but wins by long-shots Mistico’s Secret and Benjan, together with the downing of hot favourite Zanzibarian boosted exotic pay outs.
